Physicians Ignore e-Alerts when Prescribing

A recent study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine studied the actions of more than 2800 physicians in Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania in generating 3.5 million electronic prescriptions. One in 15 of these prescriptions resulted in an alert for a drug interaction or allergy, more than 98% of which were for a drug the patient was already taking.
